Olympic Games Participation
Thailand has started sending its athletes to participate in the Olympic Games since 1952, when Finland was acting as the host to the Olympic Games. On this occasion, Thailand was sending its athletes to compete only in one event, i.e. in athletics. Afterwards, Thailand has then been sending its athletes to compete in several events, namely athletics, basketball football, sailing, boxing, cycling, weightlifting, judo, swimming, shooting and others.
As said at the beginning, Thailand has started sending its athletes to participate in the Olympic Games ever since 1952. But not until the twenty-first Olympic Games, where Canada was hosting it, Thailand was able to receive its first Olympic Bronze Medal in boxing in light flyweight division by Mr. Payao Poontarat. He became the first Thai athlete ever to receive the Olympic Game Medal for the last 24 years. Soon after that, Thailand was beginning to shape up its practices, by winning a few more Olympic Gold Medals, some Olympic Silver Medals and numerous Olympic Bronze Medals as listed down below: –
